Hi! We’re Tamara (she/her) and Shelby (she/her), the owners and planners behind Dancing Queens. If you’re looking for less of the traditional wedding planners and instead some temporary besties, then you have come to the right place! We are big fans of leaving all of the “shoulds” of wedding planning behind – who you should invite, what you should wear, where you should get married etc. Here at Dancing Queens we believe that the only thing that you should do on your wedding day is celebrate your love story in a way that means the most to you.
I mean, take us for example, we had a surprise wedding on a rooftop with pizza as the main course. Tamara wore a short feather trim dress with gogo boots and a pink veil, and Shelby wore a white suit with beaded fringe sleeves. The point is – your wedding day can be what you want!

Prior to wedding and events, Tamara had her first career as an educator in Los Angeles, California and in Denver, Colorado. Her time in the classroom ranged from a 3-5 teacher, to a K-5 social emotional learning educator post pandemic lockdown, to a Dean of Students at a local preschool. This experience deepened Tamara’s love for community, passion for justice everywhere, ability to organize a lot of moving pieces and solidified her unique way of making magic happen between bland walls & narrow perspectives of what is possible.
Shelby’s been in the service industry & events since she was a teenager (17+ years!) starting at a cute ice cream shop in New Hampshire. Since then, Shelby’s passion for food and wine has taken her to restaurants and vendors from here to New York City. Her ability to prioritize guest experience, her taste for delicious food paired with the perfect wine or cocktail, mixed in with her connections and her passion for working with the local community, gives Shelby a behind the scenes perspective of all things vendors. This allows us to work closely with your vendors, make sure needs on both the client and vendor side are met, and she has plenty of experience of making sure events flow and come to life.

Additionally, one of the most important thing to us is that your wedding experience is paired with like minded vendors, such as florists, caterers, and venues who loudly and proudly celebrate and embrace love stories that fit outside of what is considered “normal” in the wedding industry. As a Queer and Black owned business, our commitment to telling love stories that represent the diversity of the queer community goes beyond just us – it’s our expectation that the people we recommend or work with believe the same thing, too. In other words, if the vibes are not inclusive of all consensual love stories, we don’t want it.
